Giardino dell’Iris

The Giardino dell’Iris, Lily Garden is a unique garden open to public every year between April and May. It is dedicated to the lily flower, ‘iris’ or “giaggiolo”, the symbol of the city of Florence.
Visiting this garden is somehow experiencing the very essence of Florence.
The Giardino degli Iris is located on the hillside at the foot of Piazzale Michelangelo in a panoramic position over the historic centre of Florence old town. From you you can admire all sort of lily varieties. You can rest on a bench or walking down to the scenic pond, adorned with water lilies.
It is recommended to visit the garden during midweek, avoiding overcrowding.

The history of the Iris garden began in 1954 to host the first international iris competition, and it has maintained its function ever since.

Giardino degli Iris is at its best between April and May, when the blossoming take places. During these months, the garden is open to the public and organize several free events, including guided tours and painting courses.
