Villa Petraia
Villa Petraia is one of the most beautiful and representative Medicean villas in the Florence area. it is located in Castello in a panoramic position overlooking the city. It is often visited together with the nearby Villa Castello.
After the Medici family, who oversaw its expansion and decoration, the villa was owned by the Lorraine family and finally by the Savoys.
The area facing the entrance to the villa is decorated with beautiful gardens with hedges and flower beds, chestnut trees, stone benches and a charming fountain. Rare citrus plants can also be found here.
Behind the villa is the lush English Park, once a hunting reserve for animals hiding in the intricate woodland that still remains today.
The villa is currently managed by the City of Florence and offers hourly guided tours.
